Today, 24 September 2025, on the occasion of The Future of Earth and Biodiversity Week in the margins of Japan’s EXPO 2025 Theme Week, IGU’s Director for Strategy and Advocacy- Mr Mark McCrory – shared his views on global LNG market developments and prospects, as well as on the role of LNG in meeting global energy demand sustainably and securely.

Hosted by Osaka Gas in partnership with the IGU’s LNG Committee, The LNG Value Chain and the Carbon-Neutral Society event enjoyed the presence of representatives from Japan’s Institute for Energy Economics, the Japan Gas Association, Cheniere, Town Gas and others.

Mr McCrory’s panel intervention focused on the role of LNG in the global energy security landscape, and on its ability to not just displace coal and enable the integration of renewables into the fast-expanding power sector, but, also, to address emissions in its own value chain:

“Mr McCrory said: Decarbonisation continues to play a growing role in liquefaction project development. Across the sector, project developers are advancing electrification, CCS integration, alternative fuels and more efficient marine engines. It is our firm view that LNG is well-positioned to reliably deliver cleaner energy to those who need it most, while also, serving to underpin  a flexible, affordable, and sustainable future energy system.”
