A press release was issued by the Secretariat of the International Gas Union (IGU),Oslo, Norway on 25 March 2014 entitled LNG is driving gas globalisation.

The most working Gas volume (WGV) is developed in natural gas fields representing 74% (314 bcm), but these cover only 57% of the total potential withdrawal rate (PWR), followed by saline aquifers 11% (47 bcm). Salt caverns have a 9% (40 bcm) share per WGV, but as high as 27% of PWR, clearly illustrating the high deliverability provided by salt caverns.
