Present in Hungary last week, Mr Andrea Stegher – the President of the International Gas Union (IGU) – held a series of high-level bilateral meetings with Her Excellency, Ms Illés Boglárka – State Secretary for the Development of Bilateral Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

During his discussion with the Hungarian Government’s representative, Mr Stegher highlighted the critical role of IGRC2027 for the global Gas industry and, specifically, for Central Europe, as a region, and for Hungary as the host country, noting the fundamental innovation DNA that is at the core of the entire world’s Gas value chain.

In addition, Mr Stegher emphasised the fundamental role that IGU plays in the global energy landscape to promote a pragmatic and meaningful energy future based on international dialogue and cooperation.

The possibility for the IGU to intervene in the energy discourse at European level was further explored, as IGU is the best placed membership organisation to represent the global Gas market’s dynamics and their implications for the regional market.

Mr Stegher said:

“I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to interact at the highest level with Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and to hear the official positions of the Hungarian Government on matters related to energy, particularly Gas and energy independence, and the role that multi-lateral co-operation and multi-party agreements can play in securing a sustainable energy future in Europe and not only.

The 2027 International Gas Research Conference, hosted by our Charter member MVM Energy,  will be a resounding success, and I would like to encourage the global Gas industry’s researchers and innovators to submit their abstracts for what promises to be an outstanding event!
