Present at Naturgas Congress in Cartagena, Colombia last week, the President of the International Gas Union (IGU) – Mr Andrea Stegher – opened the event proceedings by stressing the essential role of Gas for any credible and sustainable energy scenarios, both regional and global.

In his remarks, Mr Stegher also reiterated the need to foster a strong dialogue with all Gas industry’s stakeholders – both industry representatives and policy makers - to address the current geopolitical tensions which are impacting Gas supplies and other essential by-products.

Mr. Stegher also contributed to a panel on the global voice of Gas, and in his remarks he emphasised IGU’s focus on a global active representation of the industry coupled with regional deep links to enhance positive and impactful interactions with all the relevant stakeholders of the Gas industry.

He underlined how “ongoing and planned projects around the globe, for both new production and additional infrastructure, provide a solid background for Gas - natural gas and other gaseous molecules with lower emissions - to further promote its role in meeting the global energy demand growth while positively contributing to the industry’s constant progress in reducing its carbon intensity.”

Mr Stegher concluded his intervention with a strong call to action:

IGU will continue to promote an open dialogue and constructive engagement with all our stakeholders to promote consistent, fact-based and pragmatic policies. Our industry, in times of global complexity and conflict, stands firm, open and ready to continue to support human progress and global growth.”
