Present in Rome to mark the special 20th anniversary of Biogas Italy, the President of the International Gas Union (IGU) – Mr Andrea Stegher – took part in a special dialogue session entitled “Markets and Networks – A Valuable Connection”, held on 18 March 2026.

Organised by the Consorzio Italiano Biogas, the event was held under the theme of “Driving Force”, highlighting the productivity potential of agricultural biogas and biomethane, also through the prism of the energy transition.

In his intervention, Mr Stegher highlighted the role of the global Gas industry in partnering with the agricultural and waste sectors to jointly promote the upscale of renewable gaseous molecules.

Mr Stegher argued that “Natural gas and its evolving technologies support the renewable energy supply by overcoming intermittency and instability. The existing natural gas infrastructure is a key enabler for cost-effective and more rapid deployment of low-emission and renewable gases. Together, they are critical for lowering emissions, improving energy security and energy access issues.”
