A press release was issued by the Secretariat of the International Gas Union (IGU),Oslo, Norway on 25 March 2014 entitled LNG is driving gas globalisation.

The 2015 IGU Wholesale Gas Price survey is the eighth to be undertaken in a series which began 10 years ago. The eight surveys have confirmed the significant changes in wholesale price formation mechanisms during a period of key developments and upheaval in the global gas market.

In 2019, global Gas consumption totalled approximately 3,990 bcm with Gas-on-Gas competition (GOG) as the dominant pricing mechanism, accounting for 48% of total volume. This was followed by Oil Price Escalation (OPE) at 19%, while the regulated categories – RSP (14%), RCS (10%), and RBC (6%) – made up a combined 30%. Bilateral Monopoly (BIM) held a modest 3%, while NET and NP mechanisms were negligible, together comprising less than 1%. The data reflects a broad global shift towards market-based pricing, with GOG now the leading model for Gas consumption across regions.

The IGU Council week in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 18-21 October, offered three workshops to the delegates. The first was the traditional host country gas industry workshop, where the gas industry of the host country provides the latest industry developments.

On 22-23 September 2015, the International Gas Union (IGU), in collaboration with The World Bank Group, and supported by SE4ALL, organized a regional Gas Competence Seminar in the city of Maputo, Mozambique. The seminar was also supported by the Government of Mozambique.
