Today, 8 September 2025, Latin American senior representatives of national and international energy companies, international organisations, government officials, financial institutions, multi-lateral development banks, think tanks, and academia came together in Buenos Aires to discuss the critical role played by natural gas in the region’s energy transition and evolution.

Co-hosted by the International Gas Union (IGU), the Association of Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Companies of Latin America and The Caribbean (ARPEL), The Argentinian Institute for Oil and Gas (IAPG), and the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), the Natural Gas Stakeholders’ Series has established itself as a prominent platform for discussing the most relevant natural gas issues in Latin America and the Caribbean, aiming to find the optimal pathways for natural gas development and creating a meaningful co-operation among key energy stakeholders in the region.

This year’s edition focused on several key pillars of fundamental regional importance, such as opportunities for natural gas in heavy transport and the power sector, as a backup to support renewable energy; LNG development opportunities for export and energy security; energy poverty and the vital role of natural gas; tackling the methane emissions challenge and regional Gas integration opportunities in the Southern Cone and the Northern Arc.

Present at the event and representing the IGU, Ms Luz Stella Murgas – the President of Colombia’s Naturgas and IGU’s Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean, said:

We cannot speak about an equitable socio-economic energy access for the population across Latin America and the Caribbean without speaking about the essential role of natural gas for our region. Today, our dialogue made one thing absolutely clear: natural gas is key to financing the energy transition and building a sustainable future for our countries and our people.”
