A Pledge to Support Africa’s Gas Industry
Mr Akachukwu Nwokedi, International Gas Union’s (IGU) Regional Coordinator for Africa, delivered the Opening Keynote Address at the Strategic Dialogue Session of the West Africa Gas Summit (WAGS 2026), held from 9-11 June 2026, in Accra, Ghana.
The Summit convened key stakeholders to examine practical, enterprise-led solutions for unlocking investment and strengthening regional collaboration in West Africa at a time when the global energy landscape is being reshaped by geopolitical shifts and supply-chain disruptions.

In his address, Mr Nwokedi underscored that natural gas remains one of Africa’s most credible pathways to economic growth, energy security and sustainable development. He also noted that Gas is also central to industrialisation and economic diversification, powering industry, supporting manufacturing and petrochemicals, expanding access to energy and improving living standards through cleaner domestic fuel:
“IGU’s is committed to working with domestic associations across the region to advance regional Gas priorities through knowledge exchange, capacity development, structured policy dialogue and international partnerships.”
