Global LNG imports in 2024 were concentrated in Asia, with China, Japan, and South Korea accounting for nearly half of global demand as higher summer temperatures drove imports, though spot demand softened later in the year. China remained the largest importer, while India, Chinese Taipei, and Brazil recorded notable increases due to heatwaves and power-generation needs. In contrast, Europe’s LNG imports declined as pipeline gas flows rose and alternative power sources increased, leading to reduced LNG intake across major European markets despite added regasification capacity.
