The global electricity demand is projected to double by 2050, with the majority of this capacity increase being attributable to variable renewable energy. However, as it has already been proven so many times in the recent years, intermittency challenges across time and seasons happen, generation disruptions during extreme weather events are a certainty, and grid congestion issues can cause significant problems.
It is, therefore, absolutely clear that natural gas is set to play an increasingly critical role in stabilising future power systems amid rising penetration of variable renewable energy and growing incidence of extreme weather events!
