On April 7th, 2022, Council of the International Gas Union completed its electronic voting process approving the suspension, until further notice, of engagement of Russian Federation entities in any IGU activities. This council vote upholds the resolution adopted by the IGU Executive Committee on March 3, 2022.
The International Gas Union is deeply troubled by the ongoing violent conflict in Ukraine, the tragic loss of life, humanitarian crisis, and suffering of ordinary people. The IGU joins calls for an immediate end to the fighting that is having devastating consequences across the region.
- The conflict is creating significant geopolitical tensions in the global gas markets, escalating concerns over energy security, especially on the European continent.
- The IGU is closely monitoring the impact on the global gas markets.
- The IGU will work with our members and partners to support continued secure and reliable operation of the global gas markets in these challenging times, by facilitating transparency, information flow, and cooperation within the global gas community.
We especially applaud the heroism of Ukraine’s Naftogaz and its staff who continue to operate the gas system and ensure ongoing flow of gas to consumers, despite the war threatening their lives.
