The colourful event started with the newly appointed International Gas Union (IGU) president as well as the current president of Malaysian Gas Association (MGA), Datuk (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim, giving his opening speech and introducing the WGC2012 logo to the expectant audience, numbering around 300 and made up of government officials, foreign corporate guests and members of the media. He also took the opportunity to introduce the team that will be involved in the organising of the event.
For the WGC2012 to become the most successful and memorable gas event in the history of IGU, Datuk Abdul Rahim said that it is imperative that the whole community involved should stick together and support each other, and not just from within the gas fraternity. “The challenges ahead for the Malaysian Triennium are truly significant but I am confident that with the support of everyone involved, the 25th World Gas Conference will become the most successful WGC event ever held in the history of IGU,” he concluded.
