IGU Strategic Statement 2009: Natural Gas in a Sustainable Energy Future

The International Gas Union (IGU), serving as a spokesman for the gas industry worldwide, is through its Strategic Statement for 2009 addressing

• the need to secure the supply of energy for a growing market, and
• the commitment to mitigate the effects of climate change arising from the intensive use of fossil fuels.

 
Natural gas is the cleanest, most efficient and versatile of the fossil fuels, making it a unique choice to complement renewable energies.

IGU will continue to promote the exchange of know-how within the industry catalysing the development of new technologies in the gas industry.

IGU will continue to act as an effective interface between industry and governments promoting the advantages of natural gas in the transitional period towards a sustainable energy future.

IGU will elaborate on this policy statement at the:

• 24th World Gas Conference (WGC), 5-9 October 2009, Buenos Aires, Argentina
• UN Climate Conference (COP 15), 7-18 December 2009, Copenhagen, Denmark
