IGU Strategic Statement 2008: Gas Market Integration - A Cornerstone for Sustainable Development
The International Gas Union (IGU), serving as a spokesman for the gas industry worldwide, has now published its Strategic Statement for 2008 where IGU commits to continue fostering the dialogue between governments, national oil companies (NOCs) and international oil companies (IOCs) aiming at long term reliable, environmental friendly and sustainable energy supplies.
IGU is addressing the importance of a shared understanding of what is needed to enable the gas industry to develop transnational and regional markets.
In many industrialized countries, deregulation of the natural gas markets is changing the structure of the gas industry. Similarly the gas markets are becoming increasingly globalised due to increased cross-border trade and the development of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology. This means that the companies have to operate in a more integrated marketplace where dialogue between the stakeholders becomes more important than before.
