IGU Gas Awards 2009-2012
The International Gas Union (IGU) considers energy efficiency one of the most important ways of achieving a more sustainable energy future, of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing security of supply and reducing energy related costs.
24th World Gas Conference, 5-9 October 2010, Buenos Aires, Argentina

The Argentine President of IGU between 2006-2009, Mr Ernesto L. Anadón,
has just handed over the IGU Social Award (to the left) to Mr Mohammad Rezaei, Iran.
To the right, Mr Paul Vloon, the Netherlands, receives the IGU Effiicency Award. To the far left,
Mr Torstein Indrebø, Secretary General of IGU.
IGU considers energy efficiency one of the most important ways of achieving a more sustainable energy future, of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing security of supply and reducing energy related costs. To execute responsibility in this field, IGU has established the IGU Gas Awards.
IGU offers one Gas Efficiency Award and one Social Gas Award for the 2009-2012 Triennium to be awarded at the World Gas Conference (WGC).
Furthermore, the prize winners having the best proposal in each category will be invited by the IGU President and the IGU Secretariat to the 25th WGC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia taking place from 4 - 8 June 2012 and will receive free registration for the conference and travel (economy class), including accommodation expenses and a monetary prize of USD 5,000.
The winning project and its author will be featured in the autumn 2012 edition of the IGU Magazine and on the IGU Website.

IGU Gas Efficiency Award: “Gas Efficiency - Leading into a Sustainable Energy Future”
IGU considers energy efficiency as one of the most important ways of achieving a more sustainable energy future, of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing security of supply and reducing energy related costs. IGU has established a Gas Efficiency Award in order to call for new ideas and projects aiming at obtaining better efficiency in the use of natural gas
IGU invites all IGU members to propose gas efficiency related projects coming from the gas industry, the academic sector or public or private institutions.
The required projects are gas efficiency projects and can have all kinds of backgrounds (technical, economic, etc.) under the provision that they have to be “new ideas“. The projects may already have been published or realised but not earlier than two years before submitting the proposal to IGU. For projects not yet operating, the submission has to detail how and when a project will be implemented.
The best project, which is deemed new, feasible and achievable and which provides the most substantial improvements in gas efficiency will be awarded the prize.
Submission Deadline: 15 July 2011 (Submission no longer possible)

IGU Social Gas Award:
The IGU considers increasing awareness of gas efficient behaviour and encouraging this behaviour an important way of contributing to a sustainable energy future and executing responsibility in this field. The IGU Social Gas Award has been established in order to call for new ideas and projects aiming at stimulating people to act in a more gas efficient manner.
IGU invites, through its members, public and private sector: public authorities, schools, universities, social institutions, professional associations, and companies, to submit projects. The qualified projects are projects aiming at gas efficient behaviour. The projects must already have been realised but not earlier than two years before sending the proposal to IGU. The best project, which is deemed new, feasible and achievable and which provides the most substantial improvement to gas efficient behaviour, will be awarded the prize.
Submission Deadline: 1 September 2011
